"Never mind. Console yourself, my friend. We may hunt together again, who knows? And then --''
I have to applaud Ms Agatha Christie. She has done it again. i thought 'And then there were none' was a force to be reckon'd with but she has upped the level yet again. Finished the last book in the Poirot series - Curtain: Poirot's Last Case. A most devastating end SPOILER ALERT: Poirot died.. and he actually committed a murder. The psychology of the real murderer in this case can really be framed and done as a case study for psychologists. The fire starter centers around child verbal bullying, yet it was enough fuel for the murderer to commit murder just by opening his mouth (yes, that's a clue that the murderer is a guy.. was a guy). haha. the ability to insert a thought into one's mind, just a seed is enough to grow. Catalyzed with a little emotion, a person would be capable of committing murder.
" i should imagine that he began to discover quite young his own power for influencing people. HE was a good listener, he had a quiet sympathetic personality. People liked him without, at the same time, noticing him very much. He resented this- and then made use of it. HE discovered how ridiculously easy it was, by using the correct words and supply the correct stimuli, to influence his fellow creatures. The only thing necessary was to understand them- to penetrate their thoughts, their secret reactions and wishes."
".....he... whom everyone liked and despised, and he could make people do things they didn't want to do- or (mark this) thought the did not want to do."
"His hobby grows and grows until it comes to be a passion, a necessity. it was a drug Hastings- a drug that induced craving as surely as opium or cocaine might have done."
"It fed two lists, the lusts of the sadist and the lust of power. He.. had the keys of life and death."
“Everyone is a potential murderer-in everyone there arises from time to time thewish to kill-though not the will to kill.”
― Agatha Christie, Curtain: Poirot's Last Case
The 'brand of Cain' the mark of Hercule Poirot -- "i should have known. i should have known when i saw the bullet hole so symmetrically in the middle of the forehead."
the last words which Hercule Poirot uttered: Cher ami or Dear friend. (to Captain Hastings)
Just some trivial that i felt interesting-
Captain Hasting's wife Cinderella died first and was buried in her Argentina soil.
Captain Hastings has 4 children, with Judith being the youngest.A Grace was mentioned married to a soldier in India.. but the others, only 1 boy in the navy and the other supposedly a girl, is married and running a ranch in Argentine, no mane was mentioned.
The last book (imo should be read in conjunction/straight after the first book-the mysterious affairs at styles) this i because it would make a full circle. the first and last mystery both at Styles and witness by Arthur Hastings (he even slept in the same room- thanks* to Poirot).
I am still left with a few books from Poirot yet to read:
Black Coffee
Death on the Nile
Hallowe'en Party
Murder in Mesopotamia
Taken at the Flood aka There is a Tide
The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding and a Selection of Entrées
lastly this book: Problem at Pollensa Bay (it features 1 Hercule Poirot story so i counted it in).
